'67 BHS track squad set the bar for future Pirate team

Covert led Pirates won the NWC, won Class A district;

Oppermann won state shot put, mile-relay 3rd at state meet

The 1967 Bluffton High School boys’ track team set the bar for future track squads. The team won the Springfield Relays, the Ada Relays, the Northwest Conference meet and the Class A district meet.

Competing at the state meet were Jim Oppermann, who won the shot put. Bluffton’s mile relay team of Larry Moore, (junior), Dick Fisher (senior), Larry Eikenbary (junior) and Max Eastman (junior), finished third in the mile relay.
