Here’s Bluffton’s contribution to heavy metal.
It’s not only functional; it’s also a work of art and a sort of rock band.
The Norfolk Southern Railroad bridge across from Steinmetz Field contains all the necessary elements: rocks, rivets, metal, hard wood, and nails crossing a concrete frame with rippling water flowing below.
Function, art, music.
And, as the late-night local freight creeps through town comes the wailing whistle of a lonely brass horn to complete the sound. The clickity-clack of the metal on rails adds a percussion feel.
Take a look for yourself. Adding to the functional purpose of the bridge also view it and its surroundings as the work of art it provides.
You’ll never look at a railroad bridge without considering its multi-faceted art function.
