Fred Steiner shared his writing background with
Meredith Bixel's social studies classes
Bluffton fifth graders gained some writing tips from Fred Steiner on Oct. 24. Social studies teacher, Meredith Bixel, invited the local author to class, where he shared with students about his own writing background.
He also showed students the local history books he has published and explained some of the ways he develops story ideas. His presentations included a time for students to share their own story ideas and to ask questions about writing.
Steiner encouraged students to write short stories outside the classroom. Many of them said that they already do this.
Bluffton fifth graders are presently writing personal narratives. According to Bixel, their next focus will be researching and writing reports on the 50 states. Each student will be assigned a state. Students will eventually make a presentation to class members on what they learned.
