Ever wonder what Main Street Bluffton looked like in 1890? Fred Steiner provides two walking tours of Main Street as part of the summer Bluffton Public Library reading program. Two tour times are available because the number of persons in each tour is limited. Tours are at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6. The tours begin at the library and follow Main Street to Cherry Street, then crossing Main, returns to the library. Some tour highlights: • Russell Hotel • Bluffton’s first laundry • 500-gallon cistern in Main Street for fire protection • Cahill Grocery • Jones Furniture and Undertaker • Danner’s grocery • Diller and Luginbuhl hardware • Hauenstein drug store • Bluffton Telephone Co. You won’t see the following, since they didn’t exist in 1890: • Citizens National Bank • Bluffton High School • Bluffton Public Library • Bluffton Hospital • Shannon Theatre • Bluffton Post Office • Paved Main Street • Chase bank
