They fought Bluffton fires 120 years ago

The days of brave men are recalled in this photo of Bluffton’s 1900 fire department.

Clad in flashing dress uniforms, with medals glistening on their chests, the Bluffton firemen had just returned from a convention in Ottawa.

Holding the silver trumpet emblematic of the chief is Joe Mumma, seated on the far left of the front row. Beside him are Taylor Mumma, Charlie Yerger and Charles Sweet.

Standing from left, Alex Conrad, Levin Black, Jasper Hull, John Garlinger (26 years old at the time), Burt Watkins, Sam Kimmel and Henson Good.
