What hats they wore in 1890s

Publicity photo for Bertha Althaus, Bluffton milliner

Five of Bluffton’s young adults from the 1890s pose in this Will Triplett studio photograph.

The two identified are Bertha Althaus (front left) and her brother Werner Althaus. The other three young women are not identified.

Bertha was in the milliner trade, where she created women’s hats. This is a publicity photo for her business, as the women’s hats were her creation. She is the grandmother of Fred Steiner of Bluffton.
